Today Baseball

Baseball today is what its called the live ball era. This era started in the 1920 til the date. In 1920 Major league baseball changed it ball from rubber core ball to rubber center ball. There have been alot of great players that have come through this era. Controversy has played a big factor in the game and it is one of the reasons that Major Leagues now a days have very strict rules when it comes to doping and using illegal drugs. There has been suspensions and fines and bans in order to save the reputation of the game and in a effor to keep the game clean for the future generation of baseball players. This era brought alot of good things and alot of bad.

We have seen alot of changes in both National League and American League. Each league has now 15 teams on each league. The Arizona Diamonbacks made history clinching a playoff berth their first year as an expantion team, and later conquer their firs and only world series title. We also witness the Florida Marlins win 2 world series titles in a 6 year expand. The Boston Red Sox broke their 98 year without a title streak beating the St.Louis Cardinals in 2004. In the late 1990's the wild was introduced to both leagues. This meant that each league would have an extra team in the playoffs.

Interleague Play

In 1997 interleague play was introduced to the big leagues. This meant that each team from both National and American league would play against teams from opposite league. Rivalries were born, rivalries such as New York Yankees vs New York Mets, Chicago Cubs vs Chicago White Sox, Anaheim Angesl vs Los Angeles Dodgers and many more rivalries. Interleague only brought more fans to the ballpark to see teams play for city or state supremacy.

Steroids

Over the years baseball saw ridiculous stats during the regular season, this raised some eyebrows. We saw stats totals climb each year, for example Sammy Sosa and Mark McGuire chase for the home run title in 1998. This was the seasons that raised the concern of drug use in the game. These two players in the 1998 season combined for nearly 150 home runs. That why it wasnt a surprise when Jose Canseco(former player) came out and wrote a book about everything that happened when he was teamate with McGuire in Oakland.McGuire admitted the use of illegal drugs. Sosa til the date has been found of anything. To the date it has been suspensions and fines for players that are found of using illegal substances.
